Glad to be given the opportunity to sit on the panel and represent Region V at the Central Valley Student Leadership Summit on Friday, October 14th, 2016.
"Legislation which would allow homeless community college students to access their showers has been sign by Governor Jerry Brown!
After months of advocacy 1 of 5 bills so far signed! Congratulations to the Student Senate for California Community Colleges, this is a productive step for Community College students." The Legislative Affairs Department is hard at work asking Governor Brown for his seal of approval for the 5 bills in our SSCCC Legislative Package.
Vice Chair of Legislative Affairs Strawn has been hard at work for Region V, as he has sent letters of support to Governor Jerry Brown and Senator Ricardo Lara for AB 1995 (Williams), AB 2822 (Chiu), and AB 2766 (Lopez).
This evening at our monthly Legislative Affairs Committee in Sacramento, my colleagues elected me as Vice Chair of the committee. I look forward to working side by side with our Vice President of Legislative Affairs, Gerson Liahut-Sanchez on legislation that will represent the 2.3 million community college students throughout California.
This Afternoon I had the distinct opportunity to extend our regions support of AB 2822, "The Student Financial Aid: Student Success and Support Program Bill to Senator Ricardo Lara who is currently the Chair of the Senate Committee on Appropriations. This bill will greatly help the students of Region V and the 2.3 million students in the community college system.
I had a productive meeting with the rest of my Legislative Affairs colleagues. We look forward to representing you!
"Last night the Legislative Affairs Committee met and took some productive steps toward improving the Legislative Arm of the SSCCC! The #LATeam created committees to take on the following issue-areas and priorities: • Policy Development Committee • Lobby Corp • Communications / Outreach Committee • Get Out the Vote Campaign Committee • CA Ballot Measure Research Committee For more information on joining these committees or about the committees contact your Regional Legislative Affairs Director or Vice President of Legislative Affairs: Liahut-Sanchez ([email protected])" |
